Farmers from across the state have been sending video messages to the premier urging him to put in place a total ban on all onshore gas mining. They want the premier to give them certainty, to protect agriculture, our water, our farmland and the health of rural communities.
Here are just a few of their powerful messages:
Judy runs a beef farm in Gippsland with her husband, she is also a grandmother and wants Premier Daniel Andrews to protect Victoria’s farmland and water for all future generations.
Tammy is a dairy and beef farmer from Sale, Gippsland and has a direct message for the premier:
“Premier Andrews show us your a leader by putting in place a total ban on onshore gas mining, that’s the sort of leader I want”
Kennielle is a 4th generation dairy farmer from Maffra in Gippsland. She has some very strong words for the Premier:
“Premier Andrews if your wanting the backing of farmers and rural minded people, it is in your best interest to put a total ban on unconventional gas mining”
Kate and her family run a dairy farm in Gippsland, here’s her message to the Premier:
“As farmers we are brought up to care for our land and to look after it for future generations who will follow in our foot steps. Premier Andrews if this was your water supply, wouldn’t you say NO to unconventional gas mining to protect your families future?
Gerard is a fourth generation sheep farmer from East Gippsland.
Ian is a biodynamic free range egg farmer from Gormandale. He wants the Premier to understand the importance of ground water to farmers.
“Put the ban in the can, Dan. Seal it, Sign it, Lock it down tight so we can all unlock our gates”
Lou is a beef farmer from Perry Bridge in Gippsland. He relies on clean uncontaminated underground water from the Boisdale aquifer to run his farm and has a strong, direct message for the premier!
“98% of the population here don’t want it, we don’t need it and it could damage our clean, green image. Which matters”
Tania and her family run a beef farm in the beautiful hills of Boolarra, Gippsland.
“What sort of legacy do you want to leave Victoria, a rich agricultural future with a reputation for the best and cleanest produce in the world or a polluted toxic mining dump that can never be remediated”
Trevor is a mixed farmer from Seaspray, Gippsland. He has a very powerful and important question for the premier.
Amy & her husband run a organic free-range egg farm in beautiful South Gippsland.
“I implore you to be brave premier Andrews, we need a total ban on unconventional gas right now”
David and his family are dairy farmers from Seaspray, Gippsland, they milk 500 cows a day and are totally reliant on clean, uncontaminated ground water to irrigate their farm.
“Our farm is not viable without underground water. So when are you Mr Andrews going to put a ban on this unconventional gas mining?”
Fergus is a beef farmer from Berrys Creek, South Gippsland and has a message for the Premier.
“My property relies on underground spring water which then runs into the dam, this farm and many like it would become unviable if the water was contaminated”
