Today, the farmers, the city folk and all their supporters gathered on the steps of parliament, on the first sitting day of the year. A symbolic day, a fresh start, a new opportunity for the Andrews government to do what it’s predecessor could not. To give certainty to rural communities across the state, to protect these communities from the devastating impacts of an unconventional gas industry.
Our message was clear, only a total ban on all unconventional onshore gas mining will do. It’s time. It’s time to protect our farmland, our water, our environment and the health of rural communities.
Support for a ban continues to grow across the state, with a total of 70 communities now declared gasfield free.
The rally today saw 250 gather at Spring st, we heard from a diverse group of speakers and the message was clear, we will never back down until a ban is in place.
