It is only through your actions over the past 5 years (signing petitions, phoning MPs, writing letters, attending rallies, public forums, community consultations and writing to the Inquiry) that Victorian’s have been successful in persuading the Andrew’s government that there will never be a SOCIAL LICENCE for this industry in Victoria and, as a result, has put in place a BAN on unconventional gas mining and fracking and has extended the moratorium on conventional onshore gas until 2020.
The legislation is expected to pass the lower house in early Feb 2017 and then be tabled in the upper house. Labor, The Greens, Sex Party, Fishers and Shooters and James Purcell have all committed to supporting the ban.
However it is still unclear how the Nationals and Liberals will vote. So what can we do?
Let them know that they are meant to represent us, the people, and not play politics with such an important issue for all Victorians!
1. Ask Victorian National & Liberal MPs/Parties to vote to support the Ban legislation when it comes before them (We have a full list of who to contact below)
While your at it, it would also be helpful to ask Federal & Victorian National & Liberal MPs to stop the scare campaign Re: Gas shortage and price increases. It is not evidence based.
2. Attend the Victorian Parliament in February 2017 to support the passing of the Ban legislation in the Lower House
